2008's Winners!!
|
The first annual Champlain Valley Regional Science Fair was held last Saturday in Angell College Center at SUNY Plattsburgh. The fair was sponsored by SUNY Plattsburgh and Clinton Community College, with much appreciated financial support from the W.H. Miner Agricultural Research Institute. Middle and High School participants from around the region presented the results for their research and demonstration projects to judges and the public. In the high school research category, first place winners from Plattsburgh High School were Matthew Holden and Megan Long with a project titled "The effects of distance from UV Lamp on growth in Escherichia coli and Bacillus cereus". Their teacher mentor was Ms. Shirley Butler who received a $200 award of scientific teaching supplies from the Lake Champlain Research Institute at SUNY Plattsburgh. Second place was taken by Rian Jock and Eric Lavalley from Beekmantown High School, while third place went to Tonya Tryrell and Lindsay VanderWiele from Schroon Lake Central School. In the middle school demonstration category, the first place winner was Maile Sapp from Beekmantown Middle School with a project titled "The effect of Gatorade vs. Water on Heart-rate during exercise". Her teacher mentor was Ms. Tracy Corey, who received a $200 award of scientific teaching supplies from Clinton Community College. Second place taken by Jordan Bever and MdCayla Duffina from Peru Middle School, while third place went to Tim Snyder of Saranac Middle School. |
